A friend of mine posted a comparison of Jesus and Santa Claus, on her facebook page the other day. I know I’ve read this before, but it struck me differently this time.
When our kids were tiny- they knew that Santa isn’t real. It wasn’t until they started attending school that they started to feed into the Santa frenzy. When they asked if he was real, we decided we would just put it in their laps. We would ask if they wanted the truth and they would drop it.
It has always been important to us to make it known why we celebrate Christmas. It’s all about Jesus. He is the greatest gift we can receive!
It’s not a popular decision to not do the ‘Santa’ thing. People think you are taking the magic out of the season- the anticipation- the fun.
I believe the magic is found in the hope of Jesus. The anticipation is in His return. The fun is celebrating Him and giving of ourselves.
Why is Jesus Better than Santa Claus
Santa lives at the North Pole
Jesus is everywhere
Santa rides a sleigh
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water
Santa comes but once a year
JESUS is an ever present help
Santa fills your stockings with goodies
JESUS supplies all of your needs
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited
JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart
You have to wait in line for Santa
JESUS is as close as the mention of HIS name
Santa lets you sit on his lap
JESUS lets you rest in His arms
Santa doesn’t know your name, all he can say is “HI little boy or girls, what is your name?”
JESUS knew your name before we did. Not only does He know your name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly
JESUS has a heart full of love
All Santa can offer is HO HO HO
JESUS offers health, help, and hope
Santa says “You better not cry”
JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you”
Santa’s little helpers make toys
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions
Santa may make you chuckle but..
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength
While Santa puts gifts under your tree
JESUS became our gift and died on the tree
The kids BEGGED for one of those elves! We refused to buy the $30 toy, but decided we would buy a $5 one at the craft store. We let it known that we were the ones doing the ‘elfing’. It wasn’t until Lillian left an apology note for the elf, that our hearts dropped and our heads hung with guilt. Our child felt it important to apologize (for her sin) to a silly toy. Parent fail.
There is only One that can forgive us of our sins- and His gift is the only GIFT that we can share with everyone. I’m thankful that when we fail- when we feel the need to be of the world, He extends grace and forgives us.
I would love to pray for you! If you have a prayer request, please leave me a reply! I hope you’ve been following the Names of Jesus on my Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter pages!
Much love and Merry Christmas!
